Health, Economics and Society

The Health, Economics and Society Department was founded in the eighties. It has developed research, training of human resources, technical assistance and advocacy. Among its lines of work it is worth mentioning: sexual and reproductive health from an epidemiological, sociocultural and service-provision perspective; rights and adolescence; beliefs, health seeking and care behaviors; political dimension of health, sexual and reproductive rights; and research on health systems, programs and services. Research on social determinants of non-communicable chronic diseases has been recently incorporated, as well as on the implementation of programs on this area and maternal and reproductive health. Activities for human resources development include: mentorship for global health researchers, and Sexual and Reproductive Rights and Health Diploma (Universidad ISALUD-CEDES). Incidence on social debate and public policy takes place through diverse collaborative initiatives: web based information platforms (www.ossyr.org.ar, www.despenalizacion.org.ar, www.clacaidigital.info:8080/xmlui); inter institutional alliances (Alianza Argentina por la Salud de la Mujer, Recién Nacido y Niño, ASUMEN www.asumen.org.ar) and joint activities with many public institutions at national, provincial or local level in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government. Researchers are also part of regional and international networks: Consorcio Latinoamericano contra el Aborto Inseguro (CLACAI), The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH), Asociación Latinoamericana de Investigadores en Reproducción Humana (ALIRH).
