Women’s health
Research focuses on women’s health problems from an epidemiological and socio-cultural perspective: contraception, abortion, breast and cervical cancer, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, maternal mortality, pregnancy and delivery.

Adolescence, health and rights
This line of work gathers information about a population with specific characteristics and needs regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights. Research examines the perspective of both adolescents and health care providers and identifies institutional, ideological, and cultural barriers affecting access to health care services and quality of care.

Quality of care and efficiency of health care services
Research focuses on the problems of assessing quality of care and efficiency of health care services, including the perspectives of users and providers, for the purpose of improving quality of care, sensitizing health teams about the needs and expectations of users, and qualifying the demand.

Ideology of health care providers
Research focuses on a professional community that plays a central role in the field of sexual and reproductive health. It analyzes their perspectives, the changes in their social role, and their impact on quality of care and the promotion and the exercise of sexual and reproductive rights.

Health seeking behaviors
Research focuses on the beliefs and behaviors of the population regarding health promotion and prevention, and treatment and rehabilitation of disease. Studies approach ethnomedical models related to body functioning and risk perception, and behaviors linked to risk factors for non-transmittable diseases.

Masculinity, sexuality, reproduction and health
Research focuses on the role of men in sexual and reproductive health, the emerging transformations in masculinity and sexuality, and the factors that hinder male participation in health services and programs.
Research projects:

> Social representations of sexual pleasure: Masculinities and sexualities in the life narratives of middle class young adult heterosexual males from Buenos Aires (1998-2000).

> The male role in reproductive decisions: A study on the relationship perspectives of young women and men from middle and lower income urban sectors (1998-2000).

Political dimension of sexual and reproductive health and rights
Research focuses on the political processes that give rise to cultural, legal, and normative changes in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights. Projects monitor the process of defining and strengthening such rights in Argentina, analyze the behavior of the State, civil society, and other social actors (women’s movement, Churches, judicial administration, health care providers, political parties, and the media) in public debate and political action, and study public opinion on sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Health care systems
This research track includes comparative studies on the organization of the social security systems in Latin America and the Caribbean; the analysis of incentives and payment mechanisms in health care service provision; the design of monitoring and evaluation systems for reforms; studies on the impact of health care reforms, the different mechanisms for immunization programs, and the performance of the pharmaceutical sector.

Health sector reform and reproductive health
Research analyzes the opportunities and obstacles that the processes of health care reform bring about for the articulation of the reproductive health perspective and problems, with special emphasis on decentralization, public-private articulation, financing, integration of services and the definition of basic health care plans

Monitoring and Evaluation of health care programs and public policies
Research focuses on the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation models for policies, programs and interventions for rights promotion in the health field. Studies include recommendations to improve the design and implementation of public policies.
