Abortion and reproductive justice – New publication

Paola Bergallo edited this book with the collaboration of Agustina Ramón Michel. The book shows the results of a project initiated in 2007 by the Equipo de Justicia y Género del Centro Interdisciplinario de Estudio en Políticas Públicas (CIEPP) together with the CEDES’ Health, Economy and Society Department.

The ideas conveyed in this work are based on the dialogues that were held with representatives of vast sectors of the society. There was an ample exchange of perspectives with different actors about the abortion regulation, its legal frame and how public policies should address this issue.

Several essays were written especially for this book. Other chapters were written by national and foreign authors, in order to widen the legal debate on the abortion legalization.

The articles address three types of studies. First, a series of articles from an interdisciplinary perspective about the situation of abortion in Argentina. Then, the results of the experiences of Argentina, Colombia and Spain regarding the implementation of laws allowing abortion. Finally, the third section includes studies that question the justification of abortion penalization not only from an ethical and human rights perspectives, but also from Argentina laws and compared constitutional and legislative agreements, emerging commitments from international human rights, liberal and feminist policy debates and from health and criminal public policies.
